Double market coup in the Brindisi household. "Happy Casa Brindisi announces that it has acquired the sports performance of American point guard, with Maltese passport, Eric Washington and American center, with Latvian passport, Andrew Smith. The two new biancoazzurri players will arrive in Brindisi in time to join the group at the resumption of training" reads the note of the Apulian club.

Eric Washington è a 183-centimeter point guard born on 23/07/1993 in Columbia, started the season in La Liga ACB in Obradoiro averaging 11.2 points and 4 assists while participating in the Qualification Round Basketball Champions League. After announcing his intention to terminate his relationship with the Spanish team, he transferred to Samsunspor in Turkey at the beginning of 2024 where in four games he recorded 19 points on average (44% from two and three-point range and 90% from the lunette) among which the 17 points scored in the match vs. Fenerbahce stand out.

A 2016 graduate of Miami University, he represented the Maltese national team by winning a silver medal at the 'Games of the Small States of Europe' in 2023 in Malta. A 206-centimeter center born on 14/12/1992 in Florida, Andrew Smith comes from the Israeli league on the strength of’Hapoel Eliat where he averaged 7.8 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 50% from two-point range. For Andrew Smith this is a return to Italy, having played last season in Legadue in Ferrara at an average of 11.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.2 recovered balls, 1.4 blocked shots and 36.1 percent from three-point range. Having completed his studies at Liberty Flames college, his professional career has è developed in Europe between Estonia, Holland, Germany, Sweden and Italy.

At Groningen in 2016/17 he played in the Champions League and FIBA Europe Cup completing the 'triplete' with wins of the championship, cup and Dutch Supercup; in Sweden he reached the playoffs with BC Lulea, scoring 10.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 2 wicks per game on average. In the’summer of 2023, the decision was made to experience his first Latin American basketball experience, with the Mexican team Soles de Mexicali, ending the regular season run in November.
