Elisabetta Cocciaretto and Jasmine Paolini have made it through the first round of the 'Duty Free Tennis Championships', the second Wta 1000 tournament of the season equipped with a total prize pool of $3,211,715, which is being played on the concrete in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Cocciaretto è set over Belgium’s Elise Mertens 1-6 6-3 7-6, while Paolini beat, in less than two hours of play, Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia 4-6 6-4 6-0.
On Tuesday, in the second round Cocciareto will have to face U.S. Coco Gauff, No. 3 in the rankings, while Paolini's opponent will come out of the match between Canadian Leylah Fernandez and U.S. Bernarda Pera.
