Milan, Gerry Cardinale doesn't close the door to Inter
Gerry Cardinale gave an interview to the microphones of Calcio e Finanza in which he also talked about the issue related to the new stadium. "I am totally ready to build the Milan stadium by myself, but I am also open to evaluate other options, without excluding a potential collaboration with Inter’" admitted the patron of the rossoneri.
"I have 25 years of experience investing in sports, both by creating companies" in partnership with the best rights holders in the world, and by investing in teams and in the leagues themselves. I have always believed in an approach to investment that should be driven by cash generation and not just turnover, and should be guided as much as possible by unemotional considerations. However, I have to say that the only case where I occasionally lose this aseptic approach è AC Milan, where the passion of the fans and the importance of the team to everyone è something I had never experienced before in sports".
The owner of the Diavolo has clear ideas about the future: "I worked 20 years at Goldman Sachs, I smile if anyone thinks me soì clueless as to take on a debt to be repaid in just 18 months. I am at Milan to stay for a long time and if it was up to me I would stay here forever. Whatè is true, however, è is that we have to take into account the movements of the global economy and there’è is no doubt that in the Middle East there’è is a lot of liquidity à and willingness; to invest in sports. Right now there is a lot of capital in the Middle East that is interested in investing in sports, and we are open to working with potential partners who could join us either as sponsors or as partners in the construction of the new stadium, or as minority shareholders as true value-added partners, but as I said we will not give up control".
"I believe I can make Milan the number one club and at the same time help Serie A become competitive again. Also becauseé in the current conditions the’only way to permanently push a club to the highest level è also to belong to a stronger league also as a system. The gap with the Premier League? The way to narrow this gap è that our league regain the competitiveness’of the golden years at the European level, with the fundamental contribution of the work of us owners".
"I think we should operate within the framework of UEFA and the ECA (the Association of European Clubs, ed.), which best serve the interests of soccer in Europe. The Superleague, whatever its current form, is not è something that we think is right for Milan, Serie A or European football" Cardinale commented on the Superleague.
