Bust for Verstappen: sensational contact with a top team

The surprising meeting at the end of the Sakhir race between Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff and Jos Verstappen, father of world champion Max Verstappen, is causing discussion in the Formula 1 circus. The two were immortalized as they are talking in the paddock: a meeting that surprised many, as the two had hardly exchanged words since the Silverstone incident in 2021, at the height of the world duel with Lewis Hamilton that will consecrate the Dutch driver.

The meeting comes as part of the series of rumors about the possibilities of a future transfer of Max Verstappen to Mercedes, which arose after the announcement of Lewis Hamilton's farewell at the end of the year and were fueled by the notorious Horner affair, which is creating turmoil within the Red Bull box.

Asked about the matter, Wolff è was sibylline: "I have known Jos for 25 years, through ups and downs, and I simply congratulated him on his son’s achievements. A transfer to Mercedes? Anything è possible…", he said smiling.

According to some rumors, Verstappen is reportedly concerned about the current situation at Red Bull, which would see management lined up on opposing sides: on one side Horner with the Thai owners, on the other the Austrian executives, starting with Helmut Marko. In a recent interview, it was Marko himself who had approached Verstappen about Mercedes: "I would be surprised if they had not already contacted him. But Max è a very loyal driver".
