On the eve of its debut in the 2024 Scudetto Playoffs, the men’s roster of Italy’s champion Itas Trentino is enriched with an additional and valuable pawn in the setter role. Given the continuing unavailability of Riccardo Sbertoli, the Gialloblù club has in fact completed the signing of French director Matthieu Garcia, taken from Arago de Séte. He will be the alternative in the role of riser to Alessandro Acquarone on whom coach Fabio Soli will be able to count on in the next important weeks of the season, characterized by the Scudetto Play Off quarterfinal series with Modena and the double confrontation in the Champions League semifinal with Civitanova.
Twenty-four years to turn
Twenty-four years old to turn next Monday, who grew up right in the renowned volleyball school of L’Arago de Séte (one of the clubs with the greatest tradition in France), Matthieu è a setter who makes technique and tactical intelligence his main strengths. Despite his young age, he already has six seasons in the top transalpine league behind him, in which he made his debut at the age of 18 and already wears the captain’s armband of his club (the youngest in the club’s history to do so).

The third 'Galletto'
Matthieu Garcia è the third Frenchman in the history of Trentino Volleyball, after Renaud Herpe (dunker, in yellowoblù between 2009 and 2010) and Jenia Grebennikov (libero in Trento between 2018 and 2020); will wear the number 14 jersey. Heà will be available already for Game 1 of the Scudetto Play Off quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 6 (8:30 p.m. at the ilT quotidiano Arena against Modena).
