Carlos Sainz, ailing in Saudi Arabia: Ferrari provides clarity
A small scare, which fortunately seems to have already returned.
Carlos Sainz victim of an illness at the arrival of Ferrari and the rest of Formula 1 in Saudi Arabia. The Spanish driver, in the course of the day on Wednesday, left the paddock and deserted the appointment with the media " after feeling unwell" (as confirmed by the Maranello-based Scuderia). The situation, fortunately, è however, turned out not to be serious within a handful of hours.
After Ferrari itself had reiterated that the driver had "returned to the hotel to rest and be ready for tomorrow" è in fact, it emerged that Sainz had to deal with some gastrointestinal discomfort. This should therefore not affect in any way his commitments in the coming days, let alone his presence on the track for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
Sainz began the 2024 season, his last under the Ferrari banner, with a podium finish. Indeed, last Saturday he finished the Bahrain Grand Prix in third place, ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc (slowed by brake trouble) and finishing behind the two Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. It was he, in last year’s Singapore Grand Prix, who è was the last driver to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix before the Dutchman’s streak lasted through the rest of 2023 and continued in Sakhir in the first race of 2024.
