Jannik Sinner now knows his first opponent in Indian Wells
The name of the first opponent on American cement è now known.
Jannik Sinner in Indian Wells will face Thanasi Kokkinakis. It will in fact be the Greek who will take on the San Candido champion in the 32nd final of the California Masters 1000, which could potentially even graduate him to No. 2 in the ATP rankings and thus in world tennis. This is all net of possible, future challenges with the "usual" Rublev and Alcaraz.
Kokkinakis opened his participation in Indian Wells by defeating Marcos Giron in two sets: 6-3, 7-5 the final, accrued in just over an hour and a half of play. Now the challenge with Sinner who, on his way, could face not easy opponents such as Struff, Shelton and, in the quarterfinals, the now regular opponent Rublev. Then, in the semifinals, the possible, yet another confrontation with Alcaraz with, perhaps, the second place in the world ranking at stake. A challenge that everyone hopes for.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic è ended up on the other side of the scoreboard. In the semifinals he may have to face Medvedev, an opponent who can put anyone in trouble if in 100% physical and mental condition. Also worth highlighting is Rafa Nadal's debut. Absent from the courts since Brisbane (but starring in the Las Vegas exhibition match against Alcaraz), the Mallorcan will make his Indian Wells debut on Thursday against the hostile Raonic. Should he win, then he would have Rune on his way.
