Indian Wells, Lorenzo Sonego gets off on the right foot
Lorenzo Sonego-Miomir Kecmanovic (7-6 6-4)
Lorenzo Sonego’s journey begins on the right foot in Indian Wells, where the first Masters 1000 of the season is being played. The tennis player from Turin, in fact, overcame in two sets the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic, number 47 in the world rankings, with the score of 7-6 6-4 after an hour and a half of play.
In the first set è service was the dominant factor: at 5-5 però a Sonego’s passing miss sent Kecmanovic to serve for the set. The Serb, however, did not take advantage of the opportunity and it went to the tie-break, dominated by the Italian who won it 7-1. In the second set è the fourth game to make the difference: the Turinese cancels a dangerous break point with his service and gets the break in the next game, then confirmed, thus threading three consecutive games. At that point Sonego only has to administer the lead and close on the final 6-4 at the first useful match point.
In the second round, Sonego will face Britain's Cameron Norrie, number 26 in the ATP rankings and the number 28 seed, and winner of the 2021 edition of the Bnp Paribas Open, which was moved to October due to the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
