Indian Wells, Jannik Sinner leaves no escape for Kokkinakis
Jannik Sinner è got off on the right foot in the Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament: the world number three tennis player overcame Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis, number 99 in the ATP rankings, in two sets 6-3, 6-0. After a somewhat struggling start, Sinner raised his level and overwhelmed his opponent, quickly closing out the second set.
In the early stages, Sinner struggled in response, and suffered from the Australian's serve, which was very solid especially in the early games, so much so that the Italian was initially unable to find the right counter. The South Tyrolean also struggled a bit on serve, nullifying a break point in the fifth game.
Then the winner of the last Australian Open took his measure and shifted gears: in the eighth game he snatched the serve from Kokkinakis, and in the ninth he closed quickly on serve, ending the 54-minute partial on a crescendo.
In the second set è continued Kokkinakis’s moment of crisis, who also lost confidence at the serve, and after three bad errors immediately conceded the break in the first game to the San Candido tennis player. Sinner took advantage of his opponent's confusion, upped the tempo and quickly ended a one-sided set with a 6-0 win without right of reply in less than half an hour.
In the second round Jannik will face the winner of the match between Croatian Coric and German Struff, world number 25.
