Federica Brignone triumphs in Are, spectacular comeback in second run

The Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup weekend in Are, Sweden, begins as best it could not have for the Tricolor: Federica Brignone in fact won the giant slalom, thanks to a majestic performance in the second run, in which she recovered much more than the 1"16 gap she had paid from Sara Hector in the first fraction.

In fact, Hector è had to settle for second place, after having the best time of the morning, with an overall time of33 hundredths slower than the Valle d’Aosta woman. In third place, however, came the leader of the overall World Cup (and also of the specialty one), the Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami, who finished with a gap of exactly four tenths.
At the foot of the podium was the second Italian star, Marta Bassino: confirming the fourth position she had already obtained in the first run, the Piedmontese skier anticipated, in the order, the Norwegian Thea Louise Stjernesund, the 39;Austrian Julia Scheib, the French Clara Direz, the other Norwegian Mina Fuerst Holtmann, the other Austrian Franziska Gritsch and the AmericanPaula Moltzan, who rounds out the Top 10.
The other Italians: only withdrawal that of Lara Della Mea
As for the other Italian athletes, 23rd position for Roberta Melesi, 25th for Asja Zenere, 29th for Elisa Platino. She did not complete the first run, however, Lara Della Mea, who retired during the third sector of the fraction staged in the morning.
Brignone’s, in addition to being the 26th personal best in the CdM (updated record, for Italy, at the women’s level) è alsothe first ever by an Italian athlete at Are in the giant. In the standings, the Valle d’Aosta woman behind Gut-Behrami in both the general(1,654 points versus 1,368) and the giant(745 versus 650).
