Milan, revolution in defense in the summer
The Milan market
In the first leg of the Europa League round of 16, AC Milan won 4-2 over Slavia Prague, but there were many issues behind the result. Doudera and Schranz of Slavia Prague gave the Rossoneri defense a hard time, scoring two fine goals. Stefano Pioli did not make excuses in the Czechs’ luck, but pointed out the positioning errors of his players. This defensive problem is not è new, considering that Milan has conceded a total of 48 goals this season, including 32 in the league, eight in the Champions League and five in the Europa League.
Milan goalkeeper Maignan's performance is on the wane, with fewer decisive interventions and leadership than in the past. The absence of key players such as Tomori, Kalulu and Thiaw for a long time due to injuries also contributed to the team's defensive fragility. Pioli acknowledged that there were technical, tactical and concentration errors that compromised Milan’s defensive performance.
To improve the situation, Milan could intervene in the market, looking for reinforcements in defense and attack. The club will carefully evaluate the defenders currently on the roster and could give up some of them, including Kjaer. There is talk of Lilian Brassier as a possible new central defender, with Milan ready to invest part of the summer budget to secure him. Other options include Lacroix and Adarabioyo, with Milan interested in reinforcing its defense with top players.
