Another excellent victim in Indian Wells: Tsitsipas goes down
Stefanos Tsitsipas continues his crisis: the Greek tennis player è was defeated by Czech Jiri Lehecka in the round of 16 of the Indian Wells Masters 1000. The Hellenic player, who exited in recent weeks from the Top 10 after five years, succumbed in just two sets 6-2, 6-4 in just over an hour and a quarter of the match.
After a terrible first partial, in which Tsitsipas did everything wrong, the Greek had a reaction in the second set when he nullified three break points at 4-2 to Lehecka. But the Czech was on a great day today and, after eliminating Andrey Rublev, got another excellent scalp.
Tsitsipas thus remains out of the Top 10: after the very bad Australian Open, which ended in the fourth round, the Greek è remained dry in both Los Cabos and Mexico City, and now this new stop that further distances him from the world summit.
Tsitsipas will try to make up for it in a week’s time in Miami, while the wild Lehecka will face the winner of the match between Ben Shelton and Jannik Sinner in the quarters.
