Juventus at the Club World Cup: now it’s official
Napoli's elimination from Champions paves the way for Juventus
Napoli's elimination from the Champions League 2023/24 by Barcelona has an important effect as far as the allocation of places reserved for European clubs for the Club World 2025, the first in the expanded 32-team version strongly desired by FIFA: Juventus è in fact certain, as of tonight, to be the second Italian to qualify for the rainbow competition, after 39;Inter.
Whyé Juventus è qualified for the World Club Championship
.
Before the match staged in Montjuic, Napoli had 42 points in the ranking established by Fifa to rank European clubs, five less than Juve. To catch up with the Bianconeri (and qualify by virtue of the best overall run in the Champions League over the past four years), the Francesco Calzona-coached team would have had to pass the round and win one of the two quarterfinal matches: Barça’s 3-1 win, however, frustrated the Campania club’s ambitions.
Thus, there are still two places left, at the European level, for the Club World Cup 2025: the only possibility of having a third Italian team è però vanished due to the elimination of Napoli and Lazio, which should have won the Champions League to win the right to participate in the rainbow competition without going through the selection via ranking.
