Tommaso Giacomel returns to the podium
Tommaso Giacomel returns to the podium in the last biathlon World Cup sprint in Canmore, thanks to an excellent performance with only one mistake in the shot and the fourth time in the cross-country (behind Hofer and the two Boe brothers). The’azure thus replicates the’identical result obtained in the Ruhpolding sprint, his only other podium finish of the season, in individual formats.
Johannes Thingnes Boe was unstoppable, finding zero in both polygons and finishing with a time of 23’37″0, 1 minute and 2 seconds ahead of Giacomel, who però thanks to the final forcing managed to put Tarjei Boe, by 1 1/2 seconds, Frenchman Emilien Jacquelin, by just under 10 seconds and Swede Samuelsson by 14 seconds, all fighting with him, until the’exit from the second polygon, for a place on the podium. And there’è also the final thrill, for the amazing race of Norwegian Johan Olav Botn, who, with bib 100, managed to squeeze into fifth place 11 seconds behind Giacomel.
Also good race for Lukas Hofer, who despite 3 shooting errors è really fast on skis and finishes in’13th’place with 1’51″5 disadvantage from Boe, but less than 50 seconds from the second place of his teammate. A good race for Elia Zeni, clean on the shot, containing the gap in 2’31″0 for 24th place. Didier Bionaz makes 4 mistakes and they are a bit’ too many to aspire to the upper parts of the ranking: he finishes in 42nd place. Patrick Braunhofer è 53rd.
The Sprint Cup goes to Tarjei Boe, while his brother Johannes è launched towards winning the overall Cup. Giacomel è eighth with 598 points and consolidates his lead in the Under 25 standings, while finishing fifth in the sprint standings.
