Federica Brignone: "I thought it was over!"

Federica Brignone celebrated her victory in the Saalbach-Hinterglemm giant slalom, which came despite a slip in the second run. For the skier from Valle d’Aosta è it was the 27th career victory and podium number 68 in the World Cup. "In the second run I could hardly warm up with the heat that was there, I was nauseous. I took off, and I tried to do the first part as hard as I did in the first run. Then maybe I pushed too hard, I was too far back, I slipped and I thought ‘the race è gone’. Then also underneath I went wide in a gate and again I thought it was over. Then instead I got there already; and I saw myself in the lead…. è it was really beautiful".

Applause to world champion Lara Gut: "Lara è a great champion and I really respect her. The season she did è was wonderful, we have been skiing together for many years, but she started winning before me. This season I managed to beat her a few times, but I congratulate her because è è really strong".

Difficult Sunday for Marta Bassino, who fell without consequences in the second run: "I had a good flight, but I’m okay. I hit a little bit’ my head, which I will checkò in the next hours, but everything seems fine. Nice skiing by Federica, very solid and nice to look at. It’ s been a not easy season, I’ ve been a little lacking in confidence. Now we try to move forward and stay focused on ourselves”.
