Indian Wells, Jannik Sinner defeated in comeback by Carlos Alcaraz
The Spaniard retains second place in the ranking
No overtaking. Sinner’s run in Indian Wells è stopped in the semifinals. After 16 consecutive wins since the beginning of the year (19 if you also count Davis Cup successes), the Italian è was beaten by his sworn rival Alcaraz. The Spaniard, who appeared in great form, è won in three sets. After losing the first partial 6-1, Alcaraz è won the next two sets: 6-3, 6-2, thus flying into the final.
He chews bitterly on the South Tyrolean, who thus misses the opportunity to become No. 2 in the world. Instead, the Spaniard celebrates his second Indian Wells final in a row and a hugely prestigious victory that confirms his newfound health, both physical and mental. The Italian pays, after an excellent first set, many, too many difficulties on serve. The first defeat in 2024 è definitely painful.
Sinner will certainly haveè other opportunitiesè to improve his ATP ranking which, at the moment, sees him firmly at number 3. The next goal è to do well in Miami. Alcaraz, on the other hand, è awaited in the finals by Medvedev, also victorious in a comeback in the semifinals. Losing the first set 6-1, Medvedev è took home the next two partials 7-6, 6-2.
