World short track championships, four blue medals: Arianna Fontana also returns to the podium
Italy closes with two silvers and two bronzes
It's ended with four medals, two silver and two bronze, the adventure of Italian athletes at the World Short Track Championships in Rotterdam: at the Ahoy Arena three of the four podiums came from the 1000-meter distance, while another, the last in order of time, was given by the mixed relay over the 2000-meter distance.
Great protagonist for the blue team è was Pietro Sighel, the only Italian to return home with two medals, both silver: the 24-year-old first took second place in the men’s 1,000 meters finishing behind Canada’s William Dandjinou and ahead of another Italian, Luca Spechenhauser (bronze medalist), then he è was the last fractionalist in the mixed relay (whose other three Italian athletes were Chiara Betti, Andrea Cassinelli and Arianna Sighel) that placed just behind China.
Finally, winning the other Italian medal was Arianna Fontana, who returned to competition after a two-year absence at the World Championships in Rotterdam: the multiple Olympic medalist finished third after a "crazy" final of the 1000 meters, repeated by order of the race judges due to irregularities in the first attempt. Fontana finished behind American Kristen Santos-Griswold and Korean Kim Gil-li, thus taking revenge after the disappointment of the fall in the 500-meter final.
