Champions League, new format: Max Allegri è drastic

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri gave 'a long interview to 'The Athletic' in which he also talked about the new format of the Champions League, which will come into effect from next season: "&It is normal that with the reform it will be difficult to win … almost impossible because the new format is like in tennis and it will be difficult for one of the top eight not to make it to the final. They are doing this (the 'Swiss model') to ensure that the top eight make it to the final, I think, becauseé they want it to be a spectacle".

On his return to HCL: "When I came back I was asked to rejuvenate the team. The goal was to bring out three Next Gen players each year, reduce the cost of salaries and make the team sustainable while remaining competitive. This year many young players are in the first team. Many of our youngsters are playing for other teams in Serie A. The club has done a very good job. To be sustainable, Italian soccer must follow this path".

" We have to adapt and understand that the nine consecutive championships were an extraordinary thing. It will not happen again in Serie A. There have only been two such times in Juventus history, the five consecutive years under Carlo Carcano and Carlo Bigatto in the '30s and the nine consecutive from 2012 to 2020. Beyond that, Juventus has won at most two consecutive times, then one after three years, as other clubs have also done. The nine in a row has distorted perceptions becauseé reality&eagrave; è different" commented Allegri on Juventus’ record of nine consecutive Scudetti.
