Mattia Casse to podium in Saalbach

Third time for Mattia Casse in the first of two time trials scheduled for the downhill of the World Cup Finals in Saalbach on Sunday, March 24. Leading the rankings in the first test was Stefan Rogentin of Switzerland with a time of 1’39″05, followed by Frenchman Cyprien Sarrazin (+0″71), returning a month after the injury he suffered during the Kvitfjell downhill practice.
Just behind them, third time then for Casse who was 1″20 behind Rogentin, ahead of Austrian Otmar Striedinger (+1″35) and Frenchman Matthieu Bailet (+1″35). Gap of 2″72 and 2″79 then for Dominik Paris and Guglielmo Bosca who are respectively 19th and 20th in the day’s ranking while overall and specialty leader Marco Odermatt è 13th at 2″12. In Sunday’s race, Paris will try to defend third place in the downhill standings, led by the Swiss with 552 points ahead of Sarrazin (510) and the’South Tyrolean (342), heeled però by Vincent Kriechmayr (298).
At 10 a.m. è the women’s event is scheduled to start ahead of the downhill on Saturday, March 23. The finals program in Saalbach will continue on Thursday with one more day of practice; Friday, March 22, then the two super-Gs will be held.
