Nigel Hayes-Davis rewrites Euroleague history.
A sumptuous match rewrites the almanacs of an entire competition.
Nigel Hayes-Davis in Euroleague history. The Westerville, Ohio, native wing currently plays for Fenerbahce, and on Friday night he was an overpowering contributor to his team's 103-68 thrashing of Alba Berlin. His night turned out to be magical for another reason: by putting up as many as 50 points in just 29 minutes of play, the American became the player capable of scoring the most points in a single game in the entire history of the competition.
Hayes-Davis figures against Alba Berlin speak for themselves. The Fenerbahce player thus distributed his record 50 points: 9/11 from two, 9/16 from three and 5/7 on free throws. The 18 from the arc, moreover, represent a further record, this time for his club: never had anyone ever made so many threes in a game played with the Istanbul team.
Hayes-Davis had already shown that he was on a more unique than rare night in the first minute and 20 seconds of the game, when he had already scored 10 points (all of Fenerbahce’s up to that point). He è then went on to score 36 late in the third quarter, adding to the almanacs the last 14 in the game’s final period. The overtaking of the previous record holder (Shane Larkin of Efes, who had scored 49 in 2019) è came thanks to the last play of the game, with a basket with 19 seconds to go before the buzzer.
