Palermo, Corini in the balance: how many names for the rosanero bench
Palermo, Corini in the balance
The defeat suffered by Palermo in the away match in Pisa (Nerazzurri’s double comeback, first from 0-2 to 2-2 and then from 2-3 to the final 4-3) has triggered numerous speculations about the future of Eugenio Corini. The next few hours will be decisive for the 53-year-old coach, whose future on the Rosanero è bench is increasingly in the balance.
Among the candidates that have emerged to replace Corini is the name of Gennaro Gattuso, in Palermo for a very brief interlude at the beginning of the 2013/14 season. Other coaches being considered for the role are Andrea Sottil, free from October 2023 after his exoneration from leading Udinese, and Fabio Grosso, who knows the environment well having worn the rosanero jersey as a player from January 2004 to the summer of 2006, the one in which he graduated world champion with the national team. Also in the running are Marco Giampaolo and another 2006 world champion, Fabio Cannavaro.
The choice of the new coach will be crucial not only for the end of this season, but also for the planning of the next one. The club will carefully evaluate the options on the eve of the last phase of the regular season, which sees Palermo in the middle of the playoff zone but rather far (7 points) from the fourth place that would allow them to play one round less.
