Paris-Roubaix: Elia Viviani in hospital after maxi fall
Paris-Roubaix to forget for two Italian riders. After 37 km from the start of the 2024 edition of the French race there was a maxi crash involving 20 riders. Among several top cyclists who fell on the asphalt were also three prominent Italians: Elia Viviani, Alberto Bettiol and Jonathan Milan.
Elia Viviani, Olympic champion of the INEOS Grenadiers, è was forced to retire and è was transported by ambulance to the nearest hospital facility. His condition will be checked in the next few hours, also in view of the Paris Olympics.
Jonathan Milan decided to withdraw, while Bettiol did not suffer any particular consequences and è restarted, returning regularly with the rest of the group.
Tim Merlier, Laurenz Rex, Nils Politt and Jonas Rutsch, other cyclists who were involved in the crash, also restarted. Viviani had only arrived in Compiegne, at the start of the Roubaix, on Saturday evening.
