Carlos Alcaraz withdraws from Monte Carlo, in his place Lorenzo Sonego
Carlos Alcaraz è was forced to withdraw from the Monte Carlo Masters 1000 due to a physical problem. Despite ritual denials, the Murcia tennis player finally decided to make his forfeit from the tournament in the Principality official with an official post on his Instagram account. The Iberian tennis player decided to take precautions due to continued discomfort in his right arm: he was not defending any points in Monte Carlo because he had also not participated in 2023.
Right from the start the alarm had sounded in the Alcaraz household: the Spaniard had è been training in recent days with a bandaged right forearm, and especially during the sessions he never hit forehand. From Spain they had downplayed the problem, but in the end the player and his staff decided for caution, especially in view of Madrid, Barcelona and Roland Garros.
This is the official statement: "I worked in Monte Carlo trying to recover until the last minute to the round pronator in my right forearm, but it wasn't possible and I can't play. I was really looking forward to being there…. See you next year!”".
Thus skips; the possible rematch with Jannik Sinner, which would have happened only in the final anyway. In his place enters in the main draw another Italian, Lorenzo Sonego, repechaged as lucky Loser. The Piedmontese will challenge Felix Auger-Aliassime.
