Matteo Berrettini eliminated by Miomir Kecmanovic

Matteo Berrettini is leaving the Monte Carlo tournament: for the Roman, recent winner of the ATP 250 in Marrakech, there was nothing to do against Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic, who won Tuesday afternoon in two sets the match valid for the first round of the Masters 1000 on the Principality’s clay. 6-3, 6-1 was the final result.

It was not enough for Berrettini è to react to a break disadvantage in the first set: Kecmanovic took over the fraction from the fifth game onwards, closing it on 6-3 at the second set point. The Serb then dominated the second fraction as well, getting as far as 5-0 before the only game won by the Roman before capitulating after 75' total game.

It will therefore be Kecmanovic who will face, in the second round, Grigor Dimitrov, fresh from the final played and lost to Jannik Sinner at the Miami Masters 1000. The Bulgarian defeated, in the first round, wild card Valentin Macherot, 7-5, 6-2.

Like Macherot, Berrettini had also entered the main draw of the Monte Carlo tournament as a wild card. The Roman, after a long series of physical problems, had found success again last week, winning the tournament in Marrakech, Morocco, thanks to a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Roberto Carballes Baena in the final.
