Lorenzo Musetti eliminated by Novak Djokovic
Twelve months after the last head-to-head match, which smiled against all odds on Lorenzo Musetti, Novak Djokovic è took his revenge, defeating the very Carrara athlete in the round of 16 of the Monte Carlo Masters 1000. Still, it was not a walk in the park for the Serb, who closed in two sets a match that lasted exactly two hours.
7-5, 6-3 the partials in favor of the world number one, who reacted to a bad start (Musetti won the break already in the first game) with a solid test: the key to the first fraction è all in the 4-1 partial with which Nole è was able to come back from 3-4, while in the second set Musetti è was good at bringing himself back under after also being on 1-4, but still did not è go beyond the three games won against the six that rewarded the Serb.
Thus continues the adventure in the Principality for Novak Djokovic, who in the quarterfinals will face the Australian Alex De Minaur, executioner of compatriot Alexei Popyrin (6-3, 6-4 the final score). Nole aims, in Monte Carlo, to win his first tournament in 2024: his last success on the circuit dates back to the ATP Finals in Turin last November (defeated Jannik Sinner in the final).
Musetti, however, stops after three rounds: in his previous matches, the Carrara native had beaten Taylor Fritz 6-4, 6-4 and Arthur Fils 6-3, 7-5.
