Benetton Rugby announces another major renewal
Another important renewal at Benetton Rugby. After Bautista Bernasconi, the green-and-white franchise has announced the contract extension of Marco Zanon until June 30, 2026. The center è an element of great reliability and every time he takes the field, he never fails to make his constant contribution on both sides of the court.
A physical and fast center born Oct. 3, 1997, 188 cm tall and 97 kg, Marco Zanon è a product of the Rugby Bassano nursery. Arriving in the Ghirada already in the Under 16 in the 2012/2013 season, he then also played the following year with the green-and-white Lions Under 18 jersey before moving to the Mogliano Zonal Academy. In June 2015 with Mogliano Rugby he won the national junior championship by beating Unione Rugby Capitolina in the final. In September of the same year his move to the first team takes place and then his debut in Excellence with two goals in his first two appearances.
Marco è was a couple of years in the green-and-white group led by then coach Kieran Crowley, continuing to play in the Italian top league and training at various times of the year with the green-and-white Lions as a permit player. In the 2018/2019 season è he then became a full-fledged member of the Benetton Rugby roster. Marco, with the Azzurri jersey of Italy, counts two Under-20 World Cups, as many U20 Six Nations and the Nations Cup with the Emerging National Team, debuting as well with the Major National Team in the 2019 Six Nations. With the Italy jersey Zanon to date has collected 14 caps, including seven at the Six Nations and two tries. Marco è became a standout early on in the green-and-white jersey, playing often in the 2019 ride to the playoffs against Munster and in 2021 in the Rainbow Cup-winning lineup.
From January to May 2022, Zanon played in Top14 France with Pau, collecting 3 appearances. Following the interlude on transalpine soil, è returned to the Treviso home base in July 2022 and in the first part of the current season he has dished out top-level performances. Peculiar to Zanon è s game is the disruptive physical charge whenever he carries the oval in his hands, as well as a marked solidity in every fundamental, both defensive and offensive. Zanon è reached 76 appearances in a Benetton jersey, scoring 8 tries.
