A wonderful initiative

A two-day sports event where competitiveness is put at the service of those in need. This è the concept of Basket for Kids, the event – sponsored by FIP Lombardia, Lombardy Region, Municipality of Milan, Metropolitan City of Milan and included in the Civil Week events – that Saturday 11 and Sunday, May 12 returns, for the third consecutive year, in the center of Piazza Tre Torri in CityLife, with the aim of raising funds in favor of the association Comitato Maria Letizia Verga ODV.

If the 2023 edition è closed by raising 15,000&euros; thanks to the participation of more than 1,900 U16 basketball players, 45 teams and more than 15,000 baskets made, this year the goal è is even more ambitious: to involve more and more sportsmen and fans, so as to break last year’s record of baskets.

Participating è is simple, free and includes two modes: team or single players. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, there will be – available for members and all passersby – two small courts where single or team competitions will be alternated with non-contact, shooting competitions. The important thing, on this occasion, is not to win, but to make as many baskets as possible because, at each center, the fundraising bar will rise, this year supported by numerous partners: from Decathlon to Under Armour, from ABU to Free Italian Streetball (FISB), to City Life Shopping District and Youth Basketball Program.

The’entire proceeds from the two-day event will be donated to support the Maria Letizia Verga Residence, where – from 1999 to 2023 – more than 850 children in the care of the Maria Letizia Verga Center in Monza, with their families, have been welcomed, totaling more than 5,000 people.

Throughout the weekend, there was also plenty of room for entertainment, with dunking lessons from the dynamic two of acrobatic basketballers Space Jumpers, a performance by the all-female dance crew B.Crew, and DJ sets with special guests such as Nicola Vitiello from Radio Deejay.

Finally, there will be no shortage of appearances by friends of the Committee: from well-known faces from music and entertainment, to those from sports and, in particular, basketball, also thanks to the support of the Milanese basketball world: EA7 Emporio Armani Milano, Urania Basket Milano, Sanga Milano, GEAS and Basket Femminile Milano.

The’appointment to mark in your agenda è for May 11 and 12 with Basket for Kids, remembering that only “those who put themselves on the line for a good cause, never lose”.
