Jannik Sinner, postponed Djokovic's assault on throne. Alcaraz in trouble

Jannik Sinner will not succeed in becoming world number one in Rome. The Italian tennis player forfeited the quarterfinals of the Madrid tournament and must postpone Novak Djokovic's assault on his throne at Roland Garros or Wimbledon. Having made it to the quarterfinals of the Spanish tournament, Sinner è moved another 200 points closer to Nole, who will però be unreachable in Rome even in the event of a win by the South Tyrolean at the Foro Italico.

The date with history è therefore postponed to Paris, where Jannik Sinner will definitely be seeded No. 2 and could face the Serbian outfielder only in a hypothetical final. Indeed, the Azzurri remains out of reach for Carlos Alcaraz, who after the quarterfinal knockout saw his points gap with the San Candido tennis player increase sharply.

Alcaraz, who like Sinner has physical problems (for him an arm trouble), must now instead look over his shoulder d Daniil Medvedev, who in the event of a victory Thursday against Jiri Lehecka would climb to the podium of the ATP ranking, bypassing the Murcian.

Sinner in the coming days will carry out some tests to shed light on the hip pain that has stopped him and cross his fingers: in a few months he will play the most important seasonal goals, between Internazionali d'Italia, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the Olympics.
