Newey gone, Verstappen's warning: "We are going to shatter"
The departure of Red Bull designer Adrian Newey (now very close to Ferrari) exacerbates the Austrian team’s difficult internal situation. The Milton Keynes-based stable is experiencing a two-sided 2024: while on the track the domination è almost absolute, in the pits the situation has è become more incandescent than ever, and even the future of Max Verstappen himself seems to hang in the balance.
Newey's farewell è arrived because of internal tensions within the team, and rumors are multiplying about Helmut Marko and Max Verstappen, who are also often at odds with team principal Horner: both have a clause in their contract that allows them to leave the team at any time.
Framing Red Bullè’s moment; Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, to the De Telegraaf: "The team is in danger of falling apart. That was what I feared at the’beginning of the year. For internal peace in the team, it was important to keep all the key figures on board. Now itès no longer soì".
"Newey is leaving and at the beginning of the season it looked like Helmut would be sent away as well. Not è a good sign for the future", continued Jos, who according to rumors is already negotiating with Mercedes on behalf of his son. The German team has reportedly made an attractive offer to the three-time world champion.
