Jonathan Milan won the fourth stage of the Giro 2024 in a sprint

After three successes of foreign athletes, the first Italian success at the Giro 2024 arrives at the fourth stage: to raise his arms to the sky at the finish line of Andora è Jonathan Milan, good at regulating the group at the sprint also thanks to the great work of his team, the Lidl-Trek, and in particular of Simone Consonni, last to "tow him" towards the finish.

"I am so excited,” the Friulian told the microphones of the Corsa Rosa organizers, “just like when I won for the first time a year ago. Besides, here at the finish line there was my family to see me. My national track teammate Filippo Ganna gave us a hard time, but the work done by the team, with a superlative Simone Consonni, leaves me speechless".

Ganna tried to turn the tables before the sprint, with a powerful action capable of displacing the rest of the caravan for a moment. The peloton è però recompacted itself in time for the bunch sprint, a sprint that Milan literally dominated, anticipating at the finish line Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck) and Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious).

The stage è was marked, as it progressed, by a couple of crashes within the peloton: to pay the price è Biniam Girmay, Intermarché-Wanty’s lead man, forced to retire after the second crash. In the general classification nothing changes: in pink remains Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), with 46" advantage over Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) and 47" over Daniel Felipe Martinez (Bora – Hansgrohe).
