Paralympics 2024, Ambra Sabatini and Luca Mazzone blue flag bearers
Italy's flag bearers at the Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games will be athletics sprinter Ambra Sabatini and cyclist Luca Mazzone. This was announced by the Board of the Italian Paralympic Committee at the proposal of CIP President Luca Pancalli.
"Two protagonists of Italian and world Paralympic sports who best represent a team with important ambitions and great talent. Two names that are an expression of as many disciplines among the most medaled in the Italian panorama, two sports paths that represent two different generations of champions" said Luca Pancalli, President of the Italian Paralympic Committee.
"She’ll be Italy’s flag bearer at the Paris 2024 Games: already saying it out loud makes my heart beat faster. I am so honored to be able to play this role. It’ s a dream I have always had in my drawer, a dream that every athlete has the moment they start competing, and to be able to do it this year è further reason for pride" said Ambra Sabatini.
I would like to thank President Luca Pancalli and the entire ICC Council for believing in me. I will try my best to carry out this very important task and to bring up, once again, the Tricolor. A big good luck to my Olympic colleagues and my fellow flag bearer Luca Mazzone" concluded the sprinter.
"It’s a great honor to be named Italy’s flag bearer on the most important stage: the Paralympic Games. A seal that comes after almost 24 years of career, a recognition even more important because it is conferred on me by a person like Luca Pancalli, a myth, a friend, an athlete who è been for me a fundamental point of reference. When I competed as a swimmer, I looked to his times as a spur to do better and better" said Luca Mazzone.
"I would also like to thank the CIP National Council for nominating me as a flag bearer together with a great champion like Ambra. A recognition that means so much to me. I will do my utmost to be an example for many girls and boys, make them understand that you can always start doing sports and that practicing a sport discipline allows us to have a fuller life full of opportunities " concluded the cyclist.
