Nadal suffers, struggles and wins on debut in Rome: "Must give it all"
Rafael Nadal after 728 days returned to the Foro Italico and won his debut match against Belgian Zizou Bergs at the Internazionali d'Italia. The tennis player from Manacor, for the last time in his career in front of the Rome crowd, which welcomed him as a hero, won after a suffered match that lasted more than three hours, closed in a comeback with the partials of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
After a difficult start, the 22-time Slam winner gradually found more and more confidence in the response and on serve, managing to regain the Belgian: in the second round he will face a much more hostile opponent, the Polish Hurkacz.
The Balearic tennis player is trying to regain his condition ahead of Roland Garros, scheduled at the end of the month: in Rome he won his 70th career victory and it was the first time he managed to come back from a set down since he returned to the court after a long stop.
In the press conference after the victory he è expressed himself this way: "Today was not a good match for me. I didn’t play the way I think I can play but I managed to find a way to win. I am serving better and I feel faster. I can do much better than today and I hope to do that. I am still very happy with the win, now è the time when I have to push myself to the limit and give everything".
