Alexey Lutsenko has left the Giro d'Italia

The Giro d'Italia è restarted Sunday from Avezzano without one of its protagonists, Alexey Lutsenko. The Kazakh rider, who went down during Saturday’s stage finishing in Prati di Tivo, decided not to restart surrendering to physical problems that had been plaguing him for days, as explained by his team, Astana Qazaqstan.

"Unfortunately, Alexey will not be able to continue the Giro d’Italia – explained team doctor, Enrico Magni – due to a sinus infection and acute febrile pharyngo-tracheitis. The decision è was made this morning after the last check of his physical condition".

Lutsenko, in 2024, had celebrated in Prati di Tivo itself a prestigious success, at the Giro d'Abruzzo 2024, of which he then also won the general classification. At this Giro d'Italia he was the designated captain of Astana Qazaqstan, along with Italy&#39s Lorenzo Fortunato.

The latter thus becomes the Kazakh team’s reference for the overall classification: after Saturday’s stage è seventh, with 5 minutes and 15 seconds to make up on the dominator of the first week of the Pink Race 2024, Slovenian Tadej Pogacar.
