Stefano Napolitano – Nicolas Jarry (2-6 6-4 4-6)

Stefano Napolitano struggles but it is not enough in the challenge valid for the Internazionali d'Italia s round of 16 against Nicolas Jarry, the 21st seed in the seeding and number 24 in the world. The Piedmontese player, in fact, had to surrender to the Chilean, who won in three sets (6-2 4-6 6-4) after two hours and twenty-two minutes of play. Napolitano was the last Italian competing: the Rome Masters 1000 draw thus remains without any Italian representative.

An uphill start for Napolitano, who lost his serve already in the third game. The 29-year-old from Biella seemed to feel the tension and gave up his serve again in the fifth game, going down 1-4. For Jarry è a formalityè holding the last two serves and closing on 6-2.

In the second partial Jarry breakska in the opening. Here forò comes the reaction of Napolitano who signs the immediate counter-break and goes ahead in the score. The Azure held his lead until 5-4. Here Jarry loses serve again and Napolitano closes the second set 6-4.

In the third set, Jarry, as expected, gets the break in the opening stages. The Chilean goes ahead first 3-1 and then 4-2. In the seventh game Napolitano conquers as many as three consecutive break points, but Jarry makes all his experience count. Having escaped the moment of danger, the Chilean closed the match on the first match point for 6-4.
