Marco Belinelli wins award named after Dino Meneghin

For the first time in his career, at the "venerable" ageà of 38, Marco Belinelli è won the award for best player in the 2023/2024 Serie A basketball league, an award named by Lega Basket after Dino Meneghin. The Virtus Bologna player, who returned to Italy in 2020 after a long militancy in the NBA, surpassed Rayjon Tucker of Reyer Venezia and another virtussino, Toko Shengelia.

Belinelli, specifically, got 14.7 percent of the total votes from clubs (executives, coaches and players), media and fans. Tucker è stopped at 11.4 percent of preferences, while Shengelia did not è go beyond 10.3 percent. They are followed from fourth to tenth place by Payton Willis (Pistoia), Miro Bilan (Brescia), Langston Galloway (Reggio Emilia), Niccolò Mannion (Varese), Charlie Moore (Pistoia), Shavon Shields (Olimpia Milano) and Nicolò Melli (Olimpia Milano).

Belinelli succeeds, in the roll of honor of the trophy, Colbey Ross and è the third Italian to win it in the last four seasons (after Stefano Tonut and Amedeo Della Valle, who won the MVP award of the Italian Serie A championship in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 seasons, respectively).

As for the other awards, Niccolò Mannion è won that of Italian player of the year, Mouhamed Faye of Reggio Emilia that of best Under 22 player, John Petrucelli (Brescia) that of best defender, C.J. massinburg (Brescia) that of best sixth man and Nicola Brienza (Pistoia) that of best coach (award named after Sandro Gamba).

The "Dream team" of the season, chosen by Lega Basket, è consisting of Payton Willis (Pistoia), Rayjon Tucker (Reyer Venezia), Marco Belinelli (Virtus Bologna), Toko Shengelia (Virtus Bologna) and Miro Bilan (Germani Brescia); the play of the year è Tucker’s dunk against Brescia on Dec. 23, 2023, the best referee è Silvia Marziali, the executive of the year è Massimo Capecchi, president of Pistoia.

On the sidelines, awards were also given to Charlie Moore (Antonello Riva award for best scorer in the league), Vanoli Basket Cremona for the "Vanoli Green Lab" (marketing project of the year) and GeVi Napoli for the "Comic Storytelling" (digital project of the year).
