Imola, Max Verstappen fears Ferrari updates
Red Bull during the three days of Imola will also bringà agiornamenti on the RB20, but world champion Max Verstappen fears that those that will bringà Ferrari on its home track may bring the Maranello cars closer to that of the stable that has dominated Formula 1 for three years. Here are the words of the Dutchman, reported by the Italian site of motorsport.com, on the eve of the three-day event at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit.
“This is not an answer. These things have already been planned for a long time. It is not è that a team comes with updates and we think ‘we have to put something’ together. It was already on the schedule, we’re happy with it, but of course you have to keep pushing because é the teams behind us are definitely catching up, as you è saw in Miami, when we can’t do things at 100 percent, they’re ahead and we have to try to make sure we don’t have too many weekends like that”.
“McLaren, of course, è arrived in Miami with a very important update, so I think we will only find out here how good this update is going to be, because it always takes a little bit of time to fine-tune things, but sì, we knew that. These are small details that can sometimes make a big difference in terms of lap times, and I think, especially on a track like Miami, where so many details can make a difference and it is very hot, so slipping with the tires can make you lose a lot of lap time. Other teams come with upgrades, like Ferrari, for example. They come with a very big package of updates. At the moment, therefore, è very difficult to know where we will be”,
“Imola è a rather complicated track, with a lot of high-speed corners, curbs, they have taken out some bollards, so we have to see how it will evolve; the way we drive. And also the weather, not è an easy weekend, so there are many things we have to fix. When we last raced at Imola in 2022, it was not possible to be aggressive in many corners because of the bollards. So I think of course they can be approached differently now. And I think it is more pleasant, because it makes the track more alive. It reminds me a little bit of the F3 days, it was a lot of fun. So sì let’s see how it goes. I am not sure that with the cars we have now we can be aggressive, because we turn low anyway, but we certainly can be more aggressive than the last time we came here”.
