VAR, Premier League considers backtracking
Wolverhampton's instance seems to be shared by many other clubs
Introduced in 2019, VAR may soon disappear from the Premier League. Incredible but true, English clubs, next June 6, will meet to decide whether or not to continue with the technology applied to the field. To abolish VAR they will need 14 out of 20 votes in favor of giving up the electronic eye.
It all è stemmed from an official petition filed by Wolverhampton: "It's time to have a constructive discussion on the use of VAR five years after its introduction. The price we are paying for a small improvement in the fairness of decisions è in stark contrast to the spirit of our game. That is why we believe VAR should be abolished immediately", reads the petition filed by the club.
At this point there's a question of who will be in favor and who of the abolition of the electronic eye. So many coaches/managers have already hinted at their thoughts on the matter, such as Postecoglou, Tottenham coach, who pointed out that VAR has taken away authority from the match director, complicating matters.
Above all, the English fans seem to have made up their minds. Every time the referee consults VAR, sound booing rains down. They don't like waiting, they don't like off-field control, in short, they don't like VAR. The Premier League è the league that gives most credence to the fans’ thinking. One thinks of the Super League. The feeling è that VAR, in England, has its days numbered.
