Claudio Ranieri, last goodbye in Cagliari: “Stay close to these guys”
The'last farewell to the championship è an appeal to the fans.
Claudio Ranieri says goodbye to Serie A in Cagliari at the end of a thrilling match won by another iconic team from his past: Fiorentina. The 3-2 final guarantees the Viola the certainty of at least participating in the Conference League again next season, but inevitably one of the big themes of the evening è represented by the Testaccio coach's last words as a coach in the top league.
And after a clear salvation at the end of the season, but a complex one in recent months, Ranieri decided to say goodbye to Cagliari with an appeal addressed to the island’s fans. "I want to tell you one thing, stay close to these boys,” said the now former Rossoblù coach.
Surely they can make mistakes, but if you will be behind them supporting them, they will always walk tall".
"When they play, they always think of the Island,” Ranieri added about the Cagliari players. “They are aware of the difficulties you have to face every time you follow us away. And a push of this kind è the maximum a footballer can receive. They know they have an eager audience for them, and so I thank you from the bottom of my heart".
Claudio Ranieri, born in 1951, first coached Cagliari in the 1988-'89 season in Serie C1. He obtained two promotions in a row, thus reaching his debut in A in 1990-'91. He subsequently guided Napoli, Fiorentina, Parma, Juventus, Roma, Inter and Sampdoria in Serie A, Valencia and Atletico Madrid in Spain, Monaco and Nantes in France, and Chelsea, Leicester, Fulham and Watford in England.
