Roland Garros: Giulio Zeppieri and Mattia Bellucci fly to main draw
Positive results in the last qualifying round of Roland Garros for the Italians. Two out of three, in fact, gained access to the main draw: they are Giulio Zeppieri and Mattia Bellucci, who beat respectively Finland's Otto Virtanen, world number 156 and executioner of Dominic Thiem in the previous round, and Spain's Alejandro Moro Canas, number 190 in the ATP rankings.
Zeppieri dominated the match with Virtanen: the blue è won with a double 6-2 after not even an hour of play. It was a one-sided match for the Roman tennis player, who broke the Finnish player twice in both partials, conceding only one break ball on serve in the entire match.
Bellucci, on the other hand, struggled to get the better of Moro Canas, defeated in a comeback with a final score of 3-6 6-2 7-6 after nearly three hours of struggle. After losing the first partial, the class of 2001 è was good at fighting back by winning the second set and imposing himself in the final tie-break of the third by 10 points to 4, coming back from the initial 0-4.
Matteo Gigante didn't make it, surrendering to Brazilian Gustavo Heide, world number 174, who è won with a clear 6-3 6-2 after an hour and a half of play.
The qualifiers will conclude on Friday with two more Azzurri on the court: Francesco Maestrelli, engaged with Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin, number 135 and former world number 39, and Andrea Vavassori, who will face Germany’s Henri Squire, number 211 in the world rankings.
