VNL: Italvolley overwhelms France and moves closer to Paris Olympics
Fourth consecutive success for Julio Velasco’s team in VNL
After successes against Germany, Bulgaria and Turkey, women's Italy overwhelmed France with a peremptory 3-0 ( 25-15; 25-14; 25-14) to win its fourth consecutive victory in the volleyball Nations League. A heavy triumph also in view of the World Ranking, which at the end of the preliminary phase of the VNL will assign the last five passes for the Paris 2024 Olympics, and Julio Velasco's national team is now very close to the goal.
In the starting lineup, the Italian coach found again all the big names of the group, who were absent in Antalya. Great performances for opposite Paola Egonu (13 points), setters Caterina Bosetti (7) and Myriam Sylla (7) and centerbacks Anna Danesi (7) and Marian Lubian (8).
In the first set the first stretch was placed by Italy, which managed to escape on 12-4. After a brief comeback attempt by France, the Azzurri give another jolt to the match on 17-9, which is administered until the final 25-15. In the second partial the transalpine women started better, however, Egonu and her teammates first re-established parity, then flew away on 18-12 and finally closed the games with the score of 25-14.
In the third set, Italy asserted its superiority right from the start by gaining the lead. As the set progressed, the Azzurri not only managed, but widened the gap until the final 25-14, which gave them their fourth consecutive success and third place in the overall standings.
The women’s national team will return to the court on Thursday, May 30, 2024 to face the Dominican Republic in the sixth day of the Volleyball Nations League.
