Ferrari, Frederic Vasseur overtakes Adrian Newey
The words of Frederic Vasseur
Frederic Vasseur, fresh from Charles Leclerc’s triumph in Monte Carlo, spoke to the Italian media about everything before leaving for the trip to America: "I can’t say whether or not it could be a turning point, but I think it will be a good step forward. That said, we don’t have to change our approach because we had good results in Melbourne and Monaco. There’è a plan, we are developing the car and we know what we need to improve step by step, and this approach must be maintained. Having gotten a good result in Monaco, or less good in other weekends, does not change the plans, stability’è è very important. We know what we want to achieve, as well as we know the path we have to complete to reach this goal. At the same time, I think the win in Monaco can help Charles increase his confidence in himself, because heé been waiting for success in his home race for several years. Plus, he has gone a long time without winning, and returning to success always helps his’self-esteem".
"We are looking forward to a very exciting championship with three teams fighting each other, which means having five or six single-seaters capable of fighting for pole positions as well as stage wins. We also know that you can go from first to sixth position very quickly, so è it is important to stay focused on the next objective, and right now è the Canadian Grand Prix. We have to keep the same approach and continuously improve, department by department, in every single area, including the drivers, including the pit wall, including everything, because even when you complete a good job, you still have to do a better job the next week. If you start convincing yourself that what you are doing è enough, è that's the beginning of the end”.
“I think in part this change is due to last season, at the end of 2023 è it was clear that the performance delta between us and Red Bull was much smaller in qualifying than in race pace. Undoubtedly pole position è very important on tracks like Budapest, Monaco and Singapore compared to other circuits, but the performance deficit we had in the race last year è cost us many points. Today we are much more focused on race preparation, è something that is also seen in the weekend program, which includes a long-run already in the first free practice session. We know that this approach is a bit at the expense of qualifying preparation, but it is not è a change of mindset, as much as an effect related to what emerged last year”.
“As for Adrian Newey, I do not want to make any comment becauseé any answer could be interpreted. The most important thing è the stability of the team, as I said before, I think we are doing a good job in the right direction. The most important thing for me è the stability of the group, I è it è much more than its individual members and I would add that I am really satisfied with the current situation”.
