The numbers: 1559 registered participants, including 798 men and 761 women, representing 48 countries. A total of 9 individual world champions from Budapest and 34 reigning individual European champions from Munich.
The final entry lists for the 2024 European Championships in Rome (June 7-12) have been published, with further confirmation of the presence of the continent’s leading stars, super big names in world athletics: from Sweden Armand Duplantis (pole) to Norwegians Jakob Ingebrigtsen (1500/5000) and Karsten Warholm (400 hurdles), from Dutch Femke Bol (400 hurdles) to Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh (high), along with the other 2023 world gold medalists Gianmarco Tamberi (high), Miltiadis Tentoglou (long, Greece), Daniel Stahl (discus, Sweden) and Britain’s Katarina Johnson-Thompson (heptathlon).
There are 6 athletes currently leading the world seasonal lists: in addition to Duplantis (6.24) and Ingebrigtsen (3:29.74 in the 1500), the Lithuanian newly world record holder in the discus Mykolas Alekna (74.35), Britons Keely Hodgkinson (1:55.78 in the 800) and Molly Caudery (4.86 in the pole vault), and German javelinist Max Dehning (90.20). The blue team, as announced yesterday, will be composed of 116 athletes.
