When, after just 36 minutes of the match, Donna Vekic è took a one-set lead against Jasmine Paolini conceding just two games to her, for someone the 28-year-old Italian’s dream of making it to the final at Wimbledon was over. From there on, however, the Italian No. 1 (No. 7 WTA) shifted into top gear, going on to complete a legendary comeback to land in the final at Wimbledon.

The first Italian tennis player to play the final act of the women’s tournament tried to explain how she è was able to overturn the result: "It was a very tough match – she said on the sidelines of the match she won against the Croatian – I really struggled at the beginning but I kept telling myself that I could and should improve, especially on serve. Then I tried to think about what I had to do: I did it point by point, always repeating within myself what it took to recover".

"I am living incredible months – added the Castelnuovo di Garfagnana-born athlete – I still have to realize what is happening, the only thing I have to do è focus on the game and live well this tournament, played in a dream facility. I used to watch this tournament as a little girl, today I am here: living this situation day by day".

The year 2024 has already given Jasmine Paolini several satisfactions: on February 24 she won the Dubai WTA 1000, beating Anna Kalinskaya in the final while on June 8 she played the final of Roland Garros, bowing only to the might of the queen of clay, Iga Swiatek. She also won two doubles titles, on Feb. 4 in Linz and May 19 in Rome, again paired with Sara Errani (with whom, on June 9, she lost the doubles final at Roland Garros).
