Third medal, this time even a gold one, in an afternoon to remember at the Paris 2024 Olympics for Italy, which leaves behind for good the disappointments of the last fourth places celebrating the most precious metal in one of the most awaited finals of track cycling.
Chiara Consonni and Vittoria Guazzini in the madison routed the competition and with 37 points beat the reigning world champions of Great Britain (silver with 31 points) and’Holland (bronze with 28 points). For the Azzurre decisive was the lap won in the final (20 points) that è added up to 17 points in the sprints.
Italy has won a total of 40 medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, setting a new record for the number of metals placed around its neck in a single edition of the Olympic Games.
