400,000 LEGO bricks for Ayrton Senna’s McLaren

LEGO Italy is starting to warm up its engines. The Danish brand and Automobile Club Milano join forces to bring to the track one of the most iconic single-seaters in history, recreated entirely in LEGO® bricks. In fact, from Aug. 26 to Sept. 8, 2024, fans of speed and construction will be able to admire a spectacular 1:1 scale replica of the legendary 1988 McLaren MP4/4 driven by Ayrton Senna. The car è was made by Riccardo Zangelmi, Italy’s only LEGO® Certified Professional, and boasts record numbers: 400,000 LEGO® bricks used, 120 hours of design and 700 hours of construction for 610 kilograms of weight.

From Aug. 29 to Sept. 1, in conjunction with one of the most anticipated motorsport events of the year, the single-seater will make a special appearance at the Automobile Club Milano Club House in Monza. Here, in the heart of the "temple of speedà", fans and insiders will be able to admire this extraordinary creation up close and take memorable souvenir photos. Accompanying the replica, there will also be a faithful reproduction in bricks of the helmet of the legendary Brazilian driver, whose 30th anniversary of his death falls this year.

The slogan of this important initiative of LEGO Italy will be ‘United by the’love for racing’ becauseé that for the world of engines è one of the mostù true passions of Italians that, like that for bricks, has always united entire generations who cheer, play and share the same love.

After the exciting weekend in Monza, the single-seater LEGO® will move to the ACM headquarters in Corso Venezia 43 in Milan, where it will remain from September 2 to 8 and will be the protagonist of a special exhibition, an unmissable event for motor fans that will start on August 26. In fact, 29 model race cars in bricks made by AFOLs (Adults Fan of LEGO) Luca Rusconi, who designed them, and Francesco Frangioja, who built them, will also be on display. The mini cars are authentic, small works of art, such as the Tyrrel P34, the first and only six-wheeled car to compete in Formula 1, and tell the story of the most beloved motor racing championship ever.

Finally, from September 2 to’8, the biggest and smallest motor fans can receive a free miniature LEGO® Icons McLaren MP4/4 and Ayrton Senna to build and collect (while stocks last daily).

The great feeling between the Danish brand and the world of motorsports è already; history and is also materialized in one of the most loved sets by fans: LEGO® Icons McLaren MP4/4 and Ayrton Senna. With its 693 bricks, è the miniature replica of the iconic 1988 single-seater, just like the one you will be able to admire live at Monza. The details make it a collector’s item: working steering, push-rod suspension, rear wing, a plaque with numbers and statistics and, finally, a minifigure of Ayrton Senna.
