Farewell to Cesare Poli, in Cagliari he won the historic ’70 Scudetto
Goodbye to Cesare Poli
The world of Italian soccer è in mourning for the passing of Cesare Poli, active as a professional from 1965 to 1975 with the jerseys of Lanerossi Vicenza, Cagliari and Inter. With the island club, he was one of the protagonists, in the role of halfback, of the historic Rossoblù scudetto of the 1969/1970 season.
Born in Breganze, in the province of Vicenza, on January 6, 1945, he devoted himself first to athletics, a discipline of which he will always remain a great fan, and then to soccer, making his debut in Serie A in the 1965/1966 season. After two seasons he moved to Inter, where a serious injury prevented him from making his mark.
In 1969/70 the transfer to Cagliari along with Domenghini and Gori, in the famous exchange that broughtò Boninsegna to Inter. That season ended with the winning of the Scudetto, with Poli making his contribution by taking the field 11 times. In 1971/72 he then returned to Lanerossi, where he played for two more seasons.
He returned to Cagliari in 1973, completing two more seasons before deciding to retire, at only 30 years old, due to the consequences of an Achilles tendon injury. Like several of his teammates from the historic tricolor season, he decided to remain living in Sardinia even after his career ended.
