Italy appeal upheld: Monica Contrafatto bronze in the 100-meter Paralympic
Monica Graziana Contrafatto receives a bronze medal in the women’s 100 meters at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. The Italian athlete, despite her fall, had placed fourth just one hundredth behind the third place occupied by Britain's Ndidikama Okoh.
After an appeal filed by Italy, the Gela native è was advanced to third for the injury she suffered, having been blamelessly mowed down by fellow Italian Ambra Sabatini. There will therefore be four athletes on the podium, with the Italian receiving bronze ex aequo with Britain's Okoh.
"Ambra Sabatini è came to me crying and apologizing, but of course she didn't do it on purpose. And'my love, I felt sorry for her and for a moment I thought I hit her face with the prosthesis, so I was panicking. I am glad I took the bronze as well, so that she does not feel so much guilt in the end" began the blue athlete at the microphones of "Rai".
"I am overjoyed especially for this reason, so I dedicate the medal to Ambra. Of course I feel sorry for her, but she will definitely make up for it in the coming years because there are a lot of Paralympics ahead of her. I am very fond of her, we are roommates, è my favorite partner and I dedicate this bronze to her" commented Monica Graziana Contrafatto.
As for the medal table, however, the medals won by Italy in Paris become 71, including 24 gold, 15 silver and 32 bronze.
