Irish Open to Rasmus Hojgaard, mocked by Rory McIlroy and Matteo Manassero
Between the two heavy favorites, to tick è the third.
Rasmus Hojgaard takes the Irish Open, managing to prevail over heavy favorites Rory McIlroy and Matteo Manassero thanks to a goose-bump final round. The Dane was in fact in third place before the last 18 holes, which instead accompanied his resounding comeback in the historic competition valid for the DP World Tour.
Hojgaard ended his round with an overall score of -9 after 275 strokes. Atrocious mockery for McIlroy, who was leading the leaderboard after the third round but ended the day with a decidedly less outstanding -2. A score that, as mentioned, is worth only second place in the Irish Open. Third was instead Manassero, who with the Northern Irishman seemed the big favorite for the final victory.
Manassero canò però put his Irish Open in the archives with a smile, thanks to the splendid birdie on hole 18 that allowed him to close the day in turn at -2. This brought his overall score è to -7, just enough to place him in ninth position in the Race to Dubai rankings valid for the PGA Tour next season.
Hojgaard's exploit certainly carries not insignificant weight in the Danish golfer's pockets as well. Indeed, a total prize pool of $6,000,000 was up for grabs at the Irish Open, of which $1,020,000 went precisely to the unexpected as well as deserving winner.
