Today, (6 p.m.), at the Unipol Arena in Casalecchio di Reno, the Italian Supercup, or the first trophy of the basketball season, will be awarded. It will be played by Olimpia Milano and Virtus Bologna, which reached the final act by beating Reyer Venezia and Napoli Basket, respectively.

An expected final that will put (again) in front of each other the two battleships of Italian basketball. Both have won four Italian Super Cups throughout their history. Today, whoever wins, will climb to five, just one win away from Mens Sana Siena, the leader with six total triumphs.

Olimpia Milano and Virtus Bologna, in recent times, have faced each other twice in an Italian Supercoppa final. In 2020, the biancorossi took home victory and trophy (75-68 the final). The following year, however, it was the V Nere who celebrated: 90-84 the final.

Messina, coach of AX Milan, and Banchi, coach of Virtus Bologna, respect each other a lot. It will be a confrontation between two very different styles of play. Coach Messina has a completely renewed roster (eight new players) and is only now beginning to find the right amalgam while Banchi, as happened in the semifinals against Napoli, will bet on his loyalists, especially Shengelia, the man of great challenges.
