Coppa Italia, derby is Samp’s: Genoa knocked out on penalties

After the victories of Cesena (1-0 at Pisa) and Udinese (3-1 at Salernitana), the Wednesday of the Italian Cup round of 16 ended with the comeback success of Sampdoria, which beat Genoa 7-6 after penalty kicks in the derby, after regulation time ended 1-1.

The Rossoblù got off to a strong start and found the lead after nine minutes with Pinamonti: Badelj took advantage of a Romagnoli mistake and served the striker who crossed with his right and beat Silvestri. Two minutes later the Blucerchiati came close to equalizing with Coda but his right footer è too central. In the final Leali saves the hosts by deflecting into the corner a great left cross by La Gumina.

In the second half, Sottil inserted Barreca, Benedetti and Tutino to shake up Samp in search of an equalizer. Genoa però resisted Doria's assault. With a quarter of an hour to go then the Sampdoria coach also throws in Borini and Sekulov and the move proves successful. At 83'è the same Borini to even the score with a right-footed shot from the edge that surprises Leali. In the final, Romagnoli is sent off, but the result does not change and it goes to penalties.

In the challenge from the eleven meters to start è Genoa with Miretti who misses, kicking out. After four realized penalties, comes another mistake, this time forò Samp side, with Benedetti and so itì comes back to parity (2-2). In the end, the decisive penalty è that of Barreca, who scored after Zanoli's mistake, and sent the Blucerchiati to the round of 16 where they will find Roma.
